This film is based on the documentaries Dalí in New York (1965) by Jack Bond and Dalí’s Fantastic Dream (1966) by Albert and David Maysles.
Duration: 5 minutes 53 seconds
During this period in New York, Dalí began turning to fashion, jewelry and popular culture. At a time when luxury department stores such as Bonwit Teller were commissioning him to design their Fifth Avenue windows, he also described his interest in science and technology as follows:
“I live in New York because I find myself at the center of a cascade of commissions [...]. Moreover, it is the only place in the world where great advances are being made in technology and science. Information technology is at your fingertips. And right now, New York is also where they are working on my immortality.”
Salvador Dalí, My Life with Dalí, Amanda Lear, 1984.
In 1965, at the studios of the software company NCR, he promoted the science-fiction film Fantastic Voyage. Interacting with a computer and imitating a printer with his hands, he created a portrait of the film’s lead actress, Raquel Welch.
